American Eagle Outfitters Expands Clothing Recycling Program

Clothing retailer American Eagle Outfitters is expanding its partnership with I:Accumulate (I:CO), a closed loop cloth recycling firm. AE added a clothing and shoes recycling program in all its 823 stores in the U.S. and Canada, commencing June 14. The program enables customers to drop off unwanted clothes, shoes and textiles from any brand into cartons CO. The customers will then be rewarded with a text code off some of AE jeans to be used in the store that day. The net income from the program will be given to the Student Conservation Association. The enlarged program builds on a pilot program CO in San Francisco, and it is over at this website., in six stores and in AE's corporate offices: CO's largest North American venture. I:CO works with more than 60 associate brands to accumulate and sort donated clothes, cloths and shoes in over 50 countries. Other brand partners include H&M, Levi Strauss & Co., Footlocker, Puma and Forever21. I:CO's goal will be to integrate 100 percent of the textiles and shoes collected into a recycling proce http://www.tobuyrunning.com/lowest-price-for-nike-free-30-v2-vrouwen-wolf-grey-volt-running-schoenen.html.ke-air-jordan-fast-delivery/nike-air-jordan-olympic-shoes-online-free-shipping">Nike Air Jordan Olympic Shoes Sale.ure by 2020. To date, 30 percent of the items that were accumulated are recycled in a closed loop system. With a recycling process set up, just 5 to 10 percent of carbon and water are used or produced. Some end uses of collected materials include using fabrics for insulation materials or and filling material for stuffed toys, insoles or bags. Old shoes are turned into pellets, floorings, keyrings, protective packaging or tough casing. "We are committed to helping protect the environment through sustainability systems at American Eagle Outfitters and consider that launching the recycling system with I:CO is going to be a terrific method to make a big impact in protecting our planet," said Helga Ying, vice president of External Engagement and Social Responsibility at AE. "With the assistance of our customers, we can prevent clothing and shoes from being merely tossed away so they are sometimes reused or reverted to fundamental substances for production, creating far less waste." The enlarged I: CO system assembles on the recycling efforts of AE. The business has recycling systems in position at its corporate offices and distribution centers in the U.S. and Canada. In distribution centers, a wide selection of items are recycled, including aluminum cans, cardboard, batteries, toners, paper, plastic bales and shrink wrap. In 2010 alone, Canada facilities and its Pennsylvania recycled 183,951 tons of paper and 6,021 tons of cardboard bale. That same year, AE contributed 33,000 pairs of cut jeans to Habitat for Humanity to be recycled into housing insulation and 138,000 pieces to Contents for the Arts, which provides free materials to charitable and educational organizations for use in artwork programs. The company also holds yearly two-week event every August called "Clean and Green" to encourage workers to get rid of confidential corporate documents within an environmentally-friendly way.
