Clothing Recycling Program Enlarges

Its venture is enlarging with I:Accumulate (I:CO), a closed loop cloth recycling business. AE added a clothing and shoes recycling program in all its 823 stores in the U.S. and Canada, starting Ju http://www.tobuyrunning.com/best-air-jordan-retro-6-kids-white.html.e 14. This system enables customers to drop off unwanted clothes, shoes and fabrics from any brand into boxes marked I: CO at any North America store. The customers will subsequently be rewarded with a text code off a pair of AE jeans to be used in the store that day. The earnings from the program will be given to the Student Conservation Association. The increased system builds on a pilot program with I: CO in AE's corporate offices, in six shops and in San Francisco, and it's I: CO's biggest North American venture. I:CO works with more than 60 partner brands to collect and sort donated clothes, fabrics and shoes in over 50 countries. Other brand partners include H&M, Levi Strauss & Co., Footlocker, Puma and Forever21. I:CO's goal will be to incorporate 100 percent of the fabrics and shoes gathered into a recycling procedure by 2020. To date, 30 percent of the items that were accumulated are recycled in a closed loop system. Achieving that goal will help reduce water use and carbon dioxide emissions: Producing only one T shirt uses 10,000 to 30,000 liters of water and creates 3.6 kilograms TOBUYRUNNING.COM.of carbon dioxide emissions. With a recycling process set up, just 5 to 10 percent of water and carbon are used or produced. Some end uses of collected materials include using textiles as cushioning or for insulation fabrics and filling fabric for totes, insoles or stuffed toys. Old shoes are turned into protective packaging, floorings, keyrings, pellets or hard casing. "We're committed to helping protect the environment through sustainability systems at American Eagle Outfitters and believe that starting the recycling system with I:CO is going to be an effective means to make a large impact in protecting our planet," said Helga Ying, vice president of External Participation and Social Responsibility at AE. "With the aid of our customers, we can prevent clothing and shoes from being simply tossed away so they could be reused or reverted to fundamental materials for production, producing far les Cheap Air Jordan 9. waste." The enlarged I: the recycling efforts of AE are built on by CO system. In distribution centers, a wide selection of items are recycled, including batteries, cardboard, aluminum cans, toners, paper, plastic bales and shrink wrap. In 2010 alone, its Pennsylvania and Canada facilities recycled 183,951 tons and 6,021 tons. The firm also holds annual two-week event every August called "Clean and Green" to encourage workers to eliminate confidential corporate documents within an environmentally-friendly manner.
